Statement: Westpoint apartment block water cut off

Statement regarding water being cut off at the privately-owned Westpoint apartment block in Leeds:

A Leeds City Council spokeswoman said:
"We very much sympathise with the residents' predicament and they are welcome to use showering facilities at a number of our leisure centres that are open on Bank Holiday Monday.

"We will also be conducting an environmental health inspection on Tuesday to establish whether there are any potential issues that might need addressing. It is the responsibility of the apartment block's owners, Mainstay, to ensure residents have water restored and have proper alternative facilities in place. However, we contacted them to offer advice and support to help them resolve the situation as quickly as possible."
