Bramley pupils to bury time capsule - media opportunity

Pupils at a primary school in Bramley will leave clues about their lives for future generations to discover when they bury a time capsule next week.

The time capsule will be buried under a new playing field at Greenhill Primary School which is being created as part of a major refurbishment and part new-build programme.

Pupils and staff will be joined by Councillor Judith Blake, Leeds City Council’s executive member for children’s services at a special ceremony to bury the time capsule, which will include a school uniform, text and photographs about the old and new schools, examples of pupils’ writing, a letter to the new head teacher, memorabilia for the queen’s jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics and the school mascot, amongst others.

Members of the media are invited to film and photograph the pupils, staff and guests at the ceremony to bury a time capsule.

A brand new modular building is currently being built which will be linked to the main existing school building. The new building will house the nursery, reception classes, a small hall, a multi purpose room and a classroom. The remaining part of the existing school has been refurbished to bring it in line with the new accommodation.

Ann-Marie Reeve, Headteacher at Greenhill Primary School said: “These are exciting times for everybody at the school and we are delighted with our new building.

“The time capsule has been put together by our children and staff and will give whoever finds it an insight into what life was like at Greenhill Primary School in 2012.”

Councillor Judith Blake, executive member responsible for children’s services said:
“This is really exciting event for the children at Greenhill, who have clearly put a lot of thought into the items they have chosen to include in the time capsule. Whoever finds it in years to come will have great fun sorting through the bits and pieces and will realise what a fantastic school Greenhill was in 2012.”
