Drivers are being warned to expect delays on the A65 in Leeds this Sunday (29th January) because of improvement works taking place at the Willow Road junction. Old signals at this junction are being replaced as part of a £21million scheme to create new bus and cycle lanes along Kirkstall Road.
The junction will have only one lane open in each direction and the traffic will be managed with temporary traffic signals. The work will begin at 8am and will continue throughout the day.
The current roadworks are a major part of a number of improvements to upgrade the A65 between Hawksworth Road in Horsforth and the city centre. This latest phase includes 2.5 miles of new bus and cycle lanes and 3 miles of new footpaths.
The new bus lanes will allow an extra 276,000 bus trips a year and 27 per cent more bus journeys during peak time. Together with the planned new railway stations at Kirkstall Forge and Apperley Bridge it will contribute to an improved and greener transport system.
The current roadworks began in April 2010 and are on target to complete in July this year. They are funded by central government through the Department for Transport
