Leeds City Council have today announced the dates for the biggest free outdoor concert events held anywhere in the UK – Party in the Park and Opera in the Park in Leeds.
The council’s Events team, who organise the two annual flagship events held in the magnificent grounds of Temple Newsam, have confirmed the two concerts will take place this year on Saturday 24th July and Sunday 25th July.
Attracting a combined crowd of 120,000 people, the weekend begins with 50,000 attending the classical sounds of Opera in the Park on the Saturday evening before 70,000 pop fans enjoy performances by a line-up of chart-toppers at Party in the Park on the Sunday afternoon.
Party in the Park is co-organised by 96.3 Radio Aire with support from long-standing media partners the Yorkshire Evening Post , while Opera in the Park will once again be supported by Magic 828 and the Yorkshire Post.
Tickets for both events will be available at a special ticket launch weekend to be held in Leeds city centre on Saturday 5th June and Sunday 6th June with full details to follow soon. Fans will need to be quick off the mark to make sure of their tickets as last year all 70,000 places at Party in the Park were claimed in just four days.
Last year’s Party in the Park was arguably the finest line-up ever, featuring headline performances by Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris, JLS, Alesha Dixon, N-Dubz and Pixie Lott, while Opera in the Park saw memorable performances from award-winning soloists Alfie Boe and Natasha Marsh together with the Hallé Symphony Orchestra and the Leeds Festival Chorus.
Leeds City Council lead member for Leisure Councillor Bill Hyde said:
“Party in the Park and Opera in the Park are the two biggest free events not just in Leeds but anywhere in the UK and we are very proud to once again be hosting them in the wonderful setting of Temple Newsam.
“Improving on last year’s two amazing concerts will be a very tall order but the plans already look really exciting so make a note of the dates to ensure you get tickets to the two hottest summer events in town.”
Joel from 96.3 Radio Aire’s JK & Joel @ Breakfast said:
“I can’t believe it’s that time already! What a year it was last year and believe me when I tell you it’s going to be even better for 2010! Party in the Park is a huge event for the city of Leeds and I’m proud to be part of it!”
Magic 828 breakfast show presenter Glenn Pinder said:
“Opera in the Park is such an important event for Magic 828 and its listeners. It is a brilliant summer event and I’m looking forward to it already!”
