Work to restore safety fencing on bridges along sections of Leeds Inner Ring Road will start in February.
This is part of a programme of ongoing essential maintenance work to upgrade bridge parapets and safety fences to retaining walls on the Inner Ring Road.
Maintenance work will take place at Woodhouse Lane, Westgate, the Wellington Street canal and river area, Ivy Steet Bridge, Eastgate and Regent Street, and is expected to last for about 24 weeks.
Extensive traffic management arrangements will be put in place whilst the work is being completed, including lane restrictions and occasional lane closures at off peak times (8pm to 5am Monday to Saturday) and at weekends (8pm Saturday to 5am Monday).
Significant maintenance work will also take place on Ivy Street Bridge, which carries the A64 dual carriageway over Ivy Street roundabout at Richmond Hill. This includes replacing the existing steel parapets on both carriageways of the A64 with new steel ones, resurfacing the verges and footways and other general maintenance.
Again extensive traffic management arrangements will be put in place whilst this work is happening, including lane restrictions at off peak times (9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday) and occasional temporary road closures at weekends (8pm Saturday to 5am Monday).
Vehicle, pedestrian and emergency services access through all of the above works and to adjoining properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.
Councillor Andrew Carter, leader of the council and executive board member with responsibility for highways said:
“We appreciate that any disruption to this busy section of road is inconvenient for road users, which is why we have chosen off-peak times for the necessary traffic restrictions to take place.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding whilst these essential works are taking place.”
