Grrreat celebrations for Chinese New Year

The Year of the Tiger is being celebrated at Leeds City Museum with a roar of excitement as the Saturday Club goes oriental.

On Saturday 13th February 2010 Rory’s Saturday Club, based at the museum, will run from 11.00am – 14:00pm and incorporate a range of activities to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Visit the Saturday club to join in making your own Year of the Tiger card or poster, and learn how to create a Chinese New Year dragon puppet.

As for the celebrations, a newly-acquired tiger puppet will welcome you to the session with a large array of Chinese New Year items on display, including a small lion dance costume, and other tiger items including a real tiger skull.

Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Judith Elliott
said:

“It is great that the museum is celebrating Chinese New Year as part of their Saturday Club. It will give young children and families a great opportunity to learn more about the culture and get involved with the celebrations. I wish everyone around the city celebrating, a happy Chinese New Year. ”

This year Chinese New Year falls on the 14th February 2010, and it will be the start of the year of the Tiger.
