Leeds Rhinos played against Melbourne Storm in 2008 and won by 11 points to 4, but in the same fixture last year against Australia’s Manly Sea Eagles they just missed out in their attempt to become the first team to retain the World Club Challenge title, as Manly scored a 28 – 20 victory at Elland Road.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Elliott, said:
“Leeds Rhinos are continuing to enjoy the most successful period in their history, and they are a true sporting asset to the city. It gives me great pleasure to congratulate them on their success on behalf of everyone in Leeds, and to welcome their opponents in this weekend’s Gillette World Club Challenge match – Melbourne Storm.
“I wish both teams the best of luck for the match this weekend.”
The Lord Mayor of Leeds will be attending the match on Sunday at Elland Road with the Trophy Presentation following the match.
