Hopping on a bus could get you somewhere further than just down to the shops if you live in south Leeds – it could take you all the way to a new job.
Staff in this mobile job shop will be able to give help and advice on finding the way back to work, education and training, finding suitable childcare, becoming self-employed, housing and much more.
The bus’ visit will target the 200 council tenants and 100 other residents living on the Garden Village estate in Micklefield.
Aire Valley Homes, one of the three Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs) that manage and maintain council housing in Leeds, is working with Job Centre Plus to provide the scheme.
The bus’ visit follows on from the successful mobile job shop initiative in Middleton in the autumn.
Councillor Peter Gruen, chair of the Aire Valley Homes Board, said:
“The mobile Jobshop will fill a need in this area and we are pleased to be able to deliver this free service, which will take the means of finding a job to the place it is needed.
“Everyone’s feeling the pinch at the moment, but by giving free help and advice on employment, education and training the council is getting help to the people who need it the most.”
